So for those of us whose investments are Unwoke, our only recourse is to boycott Costco? That truly sucks. Grocery options are already limited. Oh well...Another one bites the dust.
I do actually hope that there is a meaningful impact on Costco and that we non-woke people (most of the world) can point to this awful sequence of events to illustrate what went wrong, who did it, and the consequences.
However, in keeping with the prevailing trend, the multi-trillion dollar managers are already boosting Costco's stock price artificially, in order to make it look like people actually want the garbage.
Here's how it works:
A company like Target or Anheuser-Busch (the parent company of Bud Lite) does something awful that people don't like, people boycott the company, causing layoffs and declining revenue, but their stock price goes up - ostensibly because woke investment managers rush money into the woke companies that are doing woke stuff. It's completely counter-intuitive and counter-productive. Companies losing customers but gaining share price. In my book, that's artificial market manipulation, pure and simple.
Boycotting can be effective, and I certainly encourage it, whenever and wherever any company is misbehaving. We The People should be much more vigilant about insisting upon corporate behaviors that match out value system. However, know that there are some in Finance who've learned to twist and manipulate things in disruptive ways... especially where billions of dollars are concerned.

Does that mean boycotting is useless, or does it mean that boycotting is effective but they have learned how to hide its effectiveness?
